Underground Hard Rock Cave Mining Methods
This webinar will provide an overview of Cave Mining methods and the factors influencing the selection of the appropriate one for any given orebody. There will be discussion on the risks and advantages of the methods and the direction that the (hard rock) industry is heading.
Participants will gain an understanding of the “non-negotiables” and discover the trade-offs and rules of thumb associated with designing and implementing a caving mine.
Geoff is an internationally recognised leader in all phases of large scale underground mining, including mine development, studies, construction and operations management. He has over 25 years (approx. 20 years large scale caving) in the mining industry, primarily in gold and copper, and has worked in numerous countries including Australia, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Cote D’Ivoire and Indonesia. He holds both WA and NSW underground mine manager’s certificates.
In addition to his work in the design, construction and operation of Newcrest’s caving mines he also been an active participant in the Mass Mining Technology (MMT) Research Projects led by the University of Queensland Sustainable Minerals Institute, most recently as Chairman of MMT3. Geoff was a keynote speaker at the 2016 MassMin Conference and has been a regular contributor and Organising Committee member of the MassMin and AusIMM Underground Operators Conferences.
